Today we are talking about what is homeopathy.

Welcome to Wellness in Every Season. We talk all things wellness regarding the environment that you spend a lot of your time in, your physical health, your intellectual health, your financial health, your spiritual health, professional health, your social health, who you have relationships with, your emotional health.

This is a really big umbrella, so expect all kinds of topics within all of these amazing dimensions of your wellness. Let's dive in

Today I have with me Pamela Klein, and let me tell you a little bit about her, and then we will officially welcome her. She first heard about it over 30 years ago at La Leche League. And if any of you know what that is, that is a play group that helps for breastfeeding moms.

It's a support group, and I've been a member. It's very, very helpful. And she and her two young sons were a part of it. She thought, "What is this?" And wanted to know more. She read books and took classes locally, and about three years later she enrolled in the School of Homeopathy in England, earning the practitioner's diploma of homeopathy, and she continued her

Yeah

homeopathic education, attending the California Center for Homeopathic Education, focusing on the vital sensation method developed by Dr. Rajan

Sankaran

Thank you.

Welcome.

And she continues to learn and fine-tune her homeopathic knowledge, attending workshops, seminars, and webinars given by different homeopaths and schools all over the world.

I think that's really important to note that you're continuing to learn, that you're not staying stagnant. Right there, that already raises a green flag for me, so.

Oh, thanks. Thank you.

Yeah. Yeah. Welcome, Pam. Thanks. I'm so excited you're here. We've had this on the books for way too long, and

confused my brain, and I realized that was the universe or God or however you think of it, for me it's God, saying this needs to happen sooner. So I'm so glad that we were able to reschedule and have this so much sooner, because I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

Well, thank you. I'm glad to be here.

Thank you, Autumn. Yes. Yeah.

So let's dive in with our first question, because this will give a lot more context and background for those who are wondering about this. I need to move my microphone out of the way. Okay. After 25 years of practicing homeopathy, what still surprises you about healing?

Well, you talk about my ongoing learning, and it is an ongoing learning. not only by taking different webinars of, from different homeopaths all over the world, I learn from my patients, And, learn from just the, the process is of to, to get to know what is this that's bothering the person, and, and being with them, giving them the space.

I always use the word that I'm witnessing what's bothering them, and they're witnessing it too. I think what surprises me, it probably changes. I'm, I'm sorry that I'm da, da, da, da, da. Because I said this recently and I felt this recently. I'm seeing people who it's more complicated cases or health issues that are coming in that people are experiencing that come to see me.

What I've kind of, sort of amazed is that these people who have these health issues that affect them physically, emotionally, they're s- they're functioning. They're still out in the world. They have a life. They have relationships. They have a job. It might be issues going on with, with what's happening and how either emotionally what bothers them affects their relationships and also their physical symptoms, but they're out there living.

They're still living. So I'm sort of surprised with that, or I'm sort of "Oh, wow." So I don't know if that's answering your question. I always say that, well, the person heals themselves. I'm a witnesser. I... Seeing what's bothering the person, I suggest the homeopathic remedy that's similar to what the person's experiencing.

We were talking before we started, the word homeopathy means similar suffering. so we're giving the similar of what the person's experiencing in the form of the homeopathic remedy, and that stimulates the person's own healing, and there are over 4,000 homeopathic remedies. so I always s- that stimulates the person's wonderful ability to heal, and it, I also say it assists the person in their healing.

So that is, I don't know if I would use the word surprising. I'm in, wow, that's amazing. We have this just wonderful ability in us to heal, and homeopathy taps into it. Another word e- often used y- and you have it as one of your questions, is the vital force, which the life force, or maybe we think of the immune system that we each have.

And I didn't coin that expression, vital force. Samuel Hahnemann, the physician who developed, the German physician who developed homeopathy back in the 1700s, I think he may have, he may have come up with it, but he uses it in his book, The Organon, which is sort of the, where the philosophy and the principles and his thinking about disease and health and illness are written down.

So I think that we do have this wonderful ability to heal and to tap into that, and I'm gonna say that I don't know if Western medicine always does that. and I don't wanna go down that too far, but that's what- My job is, is to assist, to witness what's happening with the person and give that similar, so then that helps the person heal.

And wow a lot of times. Absolutely wow. I still have the wow about homeopathy, I have to say, that I had so many years ago. That's a good thing.

Yeah.

Frustration, but also wow. The honeymoon

period. Yeah. Yeah. How do you keep track? You said 4,000 remedies?

Oh, I don't know all of them. The ho- remedies are made, homeopathic remedies are made from plants and herbs.

They're made from the periodic table, which are min- metals and minerals and, s- and, they're made from animals, like the milk from mammals, the venom from a snake, from insects, from birds. A feather is used to make a homeopathic remedy. It's n- it's very, it doesn't endanger animals. They only need a little bit of, of whatever they're taking, the milk, the feather, to make a lot of homeopathic, of r- the remedy of that substance, that animal.

That, that's an awful way to say it. Also, what we call impon- imponderables, which means, sunlight, moonlight, the cellphone has been made into a homeopathic remedy, and there's a very specific way that they're made. I don't know if we have time to talk about that. At a certain point, the 12C potency, there's, it's this begin- there's nothing left of the material substance of that particular what we're, what the remedy is made from.

It's the beginning of, it's an energetic pattern of it, and then there are, there are higher potencies, and I don't know if you're familiar, if you've used homeopathy yourself, No ... but 'cause you'll see on a, on, on the vial it will say whatever Arnica, because that's what people know a lot about, Arnica 30C or 12C.

So it's, that means the strength or potency, but it also means how, how it was made, the process of it. what, and then there's information gathered from all of these substances, which we call provings, that are in ma- our materia medicas, in our books, and then there's what's called, the repertory, which is kinda like an index.

And so there's this, it's broken down into the mind, the different parts of the body, and then a sort of a symptom, and then the remedies under there are listed. So that's how the information is organized, in a way, because it is a lot. I s- I say homeopathy is a very simple, elegant form of medicine.

It's, it's matching. It's giving the similar. I mean, how simple is that? There's a lot of information from the patient, and then all of the, the homeopathic remedies. So it, that can be a little bit overwhelming, in a way. But my job, any homeopath's job, is to s- find out what is the person experiencing? What is this like for them?

How does it affect them? So it's really hearing, witnessing, observing the individual, not just the name, the diagnosis, what they came in for, which is part of it, but who are they? That's, and that's the individual-ness of it. Yeah.

Okay. So many thoughts. We'll see how far we get into questions. I thr- I threw a lot in

there.

I put a lot in there.

So what I'm imagining is that you're spending the time really digging deep on, you call them patients, not clients, correct?

I do.

On your patients, really getting the background, more than probably a doctor's office.

Yes.

And some of this feels like when I'm at the doctor's office and they don't know the answer off the top of their head, where they're over there researching.

Sounds like you're doing the research, that's why you don't need to know all 4,000 remedies.

Well, when I take the case, that's when I meet with a patient, I write down everything they say verbatimly, because their use of language, their choice of words is important, is expressive of them. I'm also looking at if there's gestures.

Not like what I'm doing right now, but if, if that, that, because that's also showing energy. And often there's things run through it, And, and, or something says something that's really kind of, "Well, that's different." how does that fit in? So I'm kind of getting a picture of the person, and then I, I kind of start to pull out things that are more...

that keep r- repeating, in a way, or are, wow, that's kind of different. And that, I might use that repertory that I told you. Or kind of, I sort of do have an understanding of remedies. Like I'm gonna say I had a new patient on Monday, and I took the case, and I had certain remedies in my mind as we were doing it, as I was meeting with him.

And then when I started to read back after we were finished and go over everything, other things started to come up, and the remedy that I came to is not what I was thinking of back. So I like to give myself that space of time to, what is this person? What are they experiencing? Who are they, in a way?

It's not that I'm saying that, but this, I'm seeing what did they tell me? What are they showing me?

You're giving yourself space to get your ego out of the way.

Yeah. And just be Well, that's, that's always. Can I... wait one minute, I just want to do one thing. Sorry.

Well, I have to, I have to keep

myself quiet.

Yeah. But it is what it is. It is a process. the whole thing is a process, what I just said about with me, but also I'm hearing the patient, and then the healing is a process, and I don't know... we want the quick fix. We wanna be better right away, and healing often there is a, a time el- element,

We wanna see things bettering, but it's not that boom, bang, everything is gone. Becau- and often things come back, anyway. you think about Western medicine, they take a, you have to take something every four hours. Well, that's not healing, it's just, it's just managing. And there, there's sometimes we need that.

But with homeopathy, it's sort of this process of healing. What is better? there could be a unraveling, other symptoms that someone, or states of health or ill health come back in this healing process, and I never know what's gonna come with somebody, but I know what to look for to know, yes, this remedy has helped, no, this remedy hasn't helped.

Oh, it's time to do another dose of it. No, w- let's wait. And it's usually not something that you're usually not, not taking the homeopathic remedy every day.

I remember when we met probably a year ago in a networking group, you talked about how there's layers of healing where a patient will come in for this, and they end up getting so much more healed.

Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if I said it that way, but yeah, because I just... the, really, the symptoms and what they come in for are saying the, the vital force, I'm gonna use that, are saying, "Hey, something's not right, and I'm trying to heal, trying to get things better, and this is what's, how I'm doing it, and this is the symptom."

So we use the symptoms as guides to, to ta- go to the, get to the homeopathic remedy that's similar. and some people too, maybe what I was saying when we had that, when we talked last time, is that people start having an awareness of themselves. And, and often not only does a physical symptom say that there's a physical something going on physically, it's a way that we might be managing some emotional issues too.

So it starts to be that somebody might have more of an insight about themselves. 'Cause we're looking at the whole person, the totality. We're not just, we're not separate parts. They're connected.

Let me ask you one more side question- Yeah ... and then we'll get back to, I just looked at our second question, it totally relates, so I, we'll make sure that one's in there.

Is, and pause as long as you need to think about this, what separates you from maybe witchcraft? Because some of what you're talking about sounds like it was, people who practice this, but they were called witches way back in the day, right? Or separates you from, What's the other word? Not internal medicine.

Integrative medicine. What separates you from these other modalities? I kind of think of, in Native American culture you would be the medicine woman

Yeah. Well, first of all, just to be really simple, homeopathy is not herbal medicine or plant medicine. It's, it's plants, it's the, what I said, the periodic table.

It's metals, it's mi- minerals. It's also using from animals. So it's any substance that's out on, on our planet and off our planet. So that is a little bit different, but I, I hear what you're saying. And I, and it was ... I'm sort of giving you some background first. Also, that it was developed in the late 1700s by Dr.

Samuel Hahnemann, and, and there might be some of the things that he- Because of his knowledge, he might have, of past ways of healing was used or done in his thinking in a way. And I'm gonna go with the easy one first, integrative medicine. I don't know much about that, but my thinking is is that they're using different modalities, and I don't. I'm solely homeopathy. Okay. So that's where I, I, I think that is different, although somebody might, in integrative medicine, also use homeopathy, but I don't know if, how and what their training is like.

I mean, people might use homeopathic remedies or medicines, but they haven't had a lot of training about, about them, 'cause it is its own form of medicine with its own principles and way of looking at, how we proceed, in a way. It's not just giving something that is so-called natural homeopathic.

That's, that's not homeopathy. It always has to be similar to you. it's not homeopathic to you if it doesn't help you and it's not similar.

Why does that matter? I think this will be, the, the golden nugget of answering my question, where I was trying to get.

Why does that matter? Because we're not just using medicines.

We're not just using a substance. We're using something that is similar to what the person's experiencing. So it's, it's, the... And it is, it doesn't matter what remedy is given, really. It's really finding out this is what the person's experiencing, this is the picture of them, and this remedy matches it.

I think we get hooked on, oh, I don't like that remedy, or that, that doesn't sound good. I read about it. That's not me. That's not the point. The point is that this is similar to you. take away the name of what the re- that particular homeopathic remedy is. We're giving the similar. So-

What came up for me, tell me if I'm totally off base, is it's kind of like when you get an organ transplant how you're trying to find somebody who's a very similar match to yourself so your body's more likely to accept it.

Well, they may be similar to that. Yeah, they're using that similar. It may be like, yeah, it might be. Yeah. But you want it because you're giving- That's why you need to understand and, and, and have a, an idea of who this person is and what they're experiencing, what their symptoms are like. And, so I, I think this is different because we're so used to, in Western medicine at least, like giving something because we lack, we don't have enough, or we have too much, so we have to decrease it in some way.

We're, we're not doing that. We're giving the similar. We're even giving the similar not only in what the substance is, but the strength, the potency, what I mentioned about 12C and 30C, is matching the person. I say to my patients, "You're really telling me what homeopathic remedy you need, what the potency is, and, how often."

Not that you're telling me the name, but you're telling me, and my job is, is to hear it, in a way. So I don't know if that m- that makes any sense, and it, I ... And you want me to ask, answer about witchcraft?

So because you're ... I kind of visualize it about how you're putting different things in and mixing it together, and I could see for people who know nothing about this wondering what is the difference between that, especially if- There are so maybe stuck in a place spiritually where anything witchcraft could feel very outside of their comfort zone.

Ex- explain how this isn't that.

Well, well, it's not, first of all. I don't do anything. I just, I listen and ... I listen, I witness, I understand as best as I can, and Give the simylum, the homeopathic remedy. That's all I do. um, i- it is an energetic form of medicine, yes, so witchcraft might have that aspect of, of that.

But I, I don't know how to answer that. I mean, I have had

people- And honestly, pretty much any Eastern medicine incorporates energy work.

Right. But this is not an Eastern. This is a Western.

Oh.

So it, it ... but it, it's practiced all over the world. I don't know. I mean, some people put, ask like you do, and I've had some people comment, but it's not been a major issue for me.

um, I think it, it ... Really, to be quite honest, it's sort of who's asking and, and maybe you, where you're coming from. Yeah. What is that, what does this sound like to you? Maybe I should ask you that.

it sounds super interesting. I would love to look over your shoulder while you're helping other people, 'cause it's

I could see me going down a huge rabbit hole of my own healing with this as well, so it sounds amazing. Let me get to the next question, because, it'll bring me back on track with the questions I've been asking you. and I think this will help for people who are asking for themselves, because oftentimes when we go through Western medicine and we're going to our doctor's office, our primary care, we can feel like it's a bit of a conveyor belt.

So here's where this question comes in.

Two people can have the same symptoms but receive very different homeopathic recommendations. What are you looking for beyond the symptoms? And you've kind of already started to answer this.

We did. Excuse me. Well, I'm looking, ... I'm just gonna give an example first.

Several years ago, I had ... There were five different children who came to see me who had warts. two of those children, and I'm, I took their case, meaning listening and getting to know the child as well as listening to the mom. It was really the mom. And I would found out about what the mom said about their child, about the pregnancy, about the birth, 'cause I do that with children, w- in a children's case.

Two of those, children needed the same homeopathic remedy. When I said needed, that that's what the picture came up. They needed the same. The other three needed, each needed a different homeopathic remedy, and they all did well. So it was not only that they had warts, I mean, they all had warts, but each of them experienced it differently, and each was a different person.

the warts, some, where were they located on their body, the size of them, were they soft, were they hard, when did they start? was there any pain or discomfort with it? I mean, it's just finding out how each child experienced it. And then about them. So when you answer that, when you ask about w- what, where are you looking beyond the symptoms, I'm still looking at the symptoms.

I'm always looking at the symptoms. I'm looking at the person. The symptoms are an expression that something's not right. So I'm, I'm, what is this for this person, this situation, this diagnosis, this health issue? I don't know, is that answering it?

Yeah, that did. Yeah. Thank you.

Yeah.

And, let me ask you a side question, and then- Yeah

the vitality question that I'm gonna ask you, I'll ask you that and we can answer that in the newsletter.

my question is if somebody is ready to work for you- What does that look like?

When they're ready to come to homeopathy?

I think they're ready all the time, but that's me. I th- most of the time that people come, they view they have a health issue. I'm talking about chronic health issue. Be- homeopathy can help in first aid situations, like burns and sprains and falls and broken bones, also in acute health issues like flus and, sore throats and stomach aches, and it was wonderful for the coronavirus.

But chronic issues are, ongoing, let's say, that, they may have used other types of treatment and they're not doing better, and they may even be on medication, but they're not doing any better, and they wanna be better. And they're- there's- they're open to, "Yeah, let's see what... how can this be better?"

some people have done homeopathy before. Some are completely new. so what I ideally, which isn't, is that they're open, they wanna be, they want... This process is okay for them. Sometimes it's, it can be uncomfortable. Of, of the process where not only of healing, but of when we're them telling me, them sharing with me what's going on.

and they're investing in themselves. Years ago, call me three years ago, a woman came to me who was completely new to homeopathy. she had extreme sensitivity to, to sound, to the point that she, when we did the appointment, like you are, you and I are talking, she had the sound turned off, and she was wearing earplugs and earmuffs all the time.

She knew when something had happened a year ago. She had felt something, and she had done Western medicine for a year. Didn't help. And we, we met and gave her remedy. Didn't do very much. We met again. The second remedy didn't do very much. This was within a couple of months, and this happens. It, it's never a waste.

It get, it brings us to the next, to the next. It gives us further kind of information. The third remedy, about 10 days after taking it, she emailed me and she said, when I washed my hands, it didn't hurt my ears." That was huge. I know it's just a little, little thing. Absolutely huge. And we stayed with that remedy.

We used it as needed. We increased, changed the potency, like 30c to 200c. I'm just kinda getting back to that a little bit, and she gradually got better. And that one time she texted me, she was at the beach, 'cause she ne- she couldn't even go out and she couldn't listen to music. She wasn't working.

She couldn't do activities with her kids. I mean, she was so limited in her life, and she gr- gradually got better. So there was an in- she did an investment in herself, in her healing, and it was over a period of time. And now I haven't spoken to her for a while, but she- Still is doing well. Sometimes she has a little sensitivity if she uses the cellphone, but she, she's out.

She's, I wanna say she's living her life. so I forgot what the question was. It was,

You totally answered it. So-

Yeah ...

let's, go with what I normally ask people at the end, and then I'll give you the, the hook for people to join the newsletter and continue the conversation with us. How do people find you, especially if they're wondering, "Is she someone who will take my case?"

Where should they start to look for you?

Well, I have my website. and I do offer, a meet Pam or a get acquainted call.

Yeah, list your website because- Say it? ... some people will look in the show notes, and some people will try and memorize it- Okay ... because they have the next episode queued up.

So sh- I should say it?

Yeah, say it.

www.homeopathytheheal. That's H-O-M-E-O-P-A-T-H-Y-T-O-H-E-A-L.com.

Perfect.

Thank you. I, so I, I offer that kind of get acquainted call. usually I, I say 20 minutes, but people talk more, and, and they start to tell me what's bothering them. I say wh- how I work, what this process is like, and then it's up, whether they want to make an appointment or not.

But I'm very happy to talk to people. Homeopathy's wonderful for all ages, babies, through older adults, pregnant women and nursing mothers, it's safe to use at those times. a- animals do very well with homeopathy. so it's, it's, it's, it's just a wonder- any time is a good time, and it's never, never, never not a good time to use it, in a way.

A- and there's no expiration, in the sense that if you've had a health issue in the past, there's not an expiration date that we can't help. And I do see people for all sorts of things. So what else was I asking? Were you answering, or I'm answering, um-

No, you're fine. Okay. Let me ask the question that you're not going to answer, 'cause it'll be in the newsletter.

Well, you will answer, but through email to me, so I can copy and paste it. And you mentioned this several times, the vital force. You talk about the bo- body's vital force. What does that mean to you, and how does it shape the way you approach healing? She will be- Well- ... answering that in the newsletter. As well as one other question.

So definitely follow the conversation over there. She also has her links over there, as well as in the show notes. I know a lot of you are like me and you're doing stuff while you're listening, so this is to help you still be part of the conversation. Go ahead, Diane. I

did, I did. I'm sorry. I think I sort of answered that, but I'd be happy to answer that again.

I did wanna say that I do have a newsletter that I send out every other week. I- it's also the, it's the same that's on a WordPress blog. In fact, I sent one out this morning, and, I've been writing it for many, many years, and part of why I do it is to educate people, to let them know they have a choice.

I'm very big about that. I don't say, "If you have this health issue, this is the remedy that would be helpful." I mean, I might talk about remedies a little bit, but that's not the way I work. I, as again, it's about having a choice. Now, and yeah. Let me... What else do I, what else can I answer?

I think that still goes back with you answering the question of how, using your example of warts, how you use different remedies for different people.

They might have the same symptoms, but they're different people at the end of the day. So that shows in your newsletter, you can't really give the remedy to somebody that you don't know.

Absolutely. Absolutely. And I, I am seeing, like on Facebook, that homeopathy, well, maybe because it's social media is, is what it is, that people will s- Say, if you have this particular health issue, they might list several homeopathic remedies with a very, very short description.

And the- and there, those are very possible remedies to help that person who has that health issue, yet it might not help that person because there, we need to know more about them. So I have said, if you have tried that, don't think that homeopathy can't help you. Go see a homeopath, a practitioner, and have your case taken.

Have, what, who are you? What is this like for you? I say that a lot. I'm glad that you

mention that- Yeah ... with social media, because there's so much misinformation out there, especially within AI, social media. Those are the two places that we as a population go to first.

Absolutely. That would take- Absolutely.

Yeah. So I'm, I, I'm very, as I said, I'm letting people know there are choices. and speak to somebody who's, who's trained, and will take the time to find out about you. 'Cause it always, and this is what Hahnemann said, and all the other homeopaths out there that I've, I've studied with, it always comes back to the taking the case and finding who is this person.

It's always to that. And, and that's what, that's my job in a way. Yeah. The remedy, yeah, that's important, but it's who is this person so you know what remedy to give.

I wonder how many of your patients just need to be deeply heard and connect the dots and see the patterns. I think that's probably the biggest remedy out of all of it.

Yeah. Well, thank you for saying that, 'cause I've had a few people say something like that, or I've even had, this was years ago, one woman came in and... Do we have time for me to tell you this story? This is a little weird story, maybe not.

We're actually-

But it- ...

over time, so

Okay, maybe I won't ... go ahead But it is, I think you're right.

There's something about giving that space to just, to say, and not only am I hearing them and witnessing them, they're hearing themselves and witnessing themselves. And it's almost as though it's of this, they're getting the energy back in just that process-

Yeah ...

of

a similar of them Having a safe space and everything.

Yeah.

Well, thank you so much, Pam, and I look forward to seeing you in the newsletter. Everybody else, pop on over. It's wellnessineveryseason.com/freeresources to get on the newsletter. Go ahead, I'm

listening. I, I did wanna say that the signing up for the newsletter is on my website. it's also through my email address, and I, as I said, I'm very happy...

Did you just get my email address?

No, I gave mine for joining the newsletter, and you, you already gave your website, so we're good.

Yeah. But I'm, I'm, as I said, I'm very happy to talk with people, and if anybody, I don't know, Autumn, if maybe through you, if anybody out there has a question who's v- who's listening or viewing, see if you can get in touch with me.

I'd be happy to... That means you're thinking. Yes. And that's good.

Yes.

I want to have my quick disclaimer here that this is not a one-size-fits-all. I am using my undergrad in applied health and my life coaching experience to bring this podcast to you
